Uber Technologies, Inc., known as Uber, is an American technology company. Its services include greeting rides, food delivery (Uber Eats), package delivery, couriers, cargo transport, and a partnership with lime, electric bikes and motorized motorcycle rental. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has operations in more than 900 urban areas worldwide. It is one of the biggest companies in the gig economy. Uber is estimated to have more than 93 million monthly active users worldwide. In the United States, Uber has a market share of 71% for ride-sharing and 22% market share for food delivery. Uber has been so prominent in the sharing economy that changes in various industries as a result of Uber have been referred to as uberisation, and many startups have described their offerings as "Uber for X." Like similar companies, Uber has been criticized for treating drivers as independent contractors, disrupting taxicab companies, and increasing traffic congestion. The company has been criticized for various unethical practices and ignoring local regulations, particularly under former CEO Travis Kalanick.
