Saudi Payments Network or Mada (formerly SPAN) is the only and leading payment system in Saudi Arabia established by the Ministry of Finance under the supervision of the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia. All ATM and POS stations across the country are connected to a central payment key that in turn redirects financial transactions to the card issuer (local bank, Visa, American Express or MasterCard). The Central Bank of Saudi Arabia (SAMA) requires all banks in Saudi Arabia to issue fully compatible ATMs. All services are provided to the customer free of charge, regardless of the ATMs used, the operator or the issuer of the customer's card. offers its services through more than 17,000 ATMs and more than 225,000 point-of-sale stations in the Kingdom. In collaboration with global payment systems such as Visa, MasterCard and Maestro, Mada allows access to millions of ATMs and point-of-sale terminals worldwide. The network has recently been upgraded to SPAN2 which complies with EMV standards and implements a higher capacity infrastructure and thus less processing time, especially at pos stations, solving a major problem of the first generation SPAN system.
