Lam Research was founded in 1980 by David K. L., a Chinese-born engineer who previously worked at Zeroxi, Hewlett Packard and Texas Instruments. It was when he was at Hewlett-Packard that he saw the need for the best plasma engraving equipment, to keep up with the rapid miniaturization of semiconductor chips. Bob Noose, the founder of Intel, was credited with helping him get funding by ensuring that his business plan made sense.
