It provides video, video and online chat services through a peer-to-peer cloud-based software platform and is used in remote conferencing, remote work, distance education, and social relations. Eric Yuan, a former Cisco executive engineer, founded Zoom in 2011 and launched his program in 2013. Beginning in early 2020, the use of Zoom software has increased significantly following the introduction of quarantine measures adopted in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. Its software products have faced public and media scrutiny regarding security and privacy issues. Part of the task force is located in Zum, China, raising concerns about surveillance and censorship.
