Trade Westport Fuel
Westport Innovations (NASDAQ: WPRT, TSX: WPRT) is an alternative fuel development company, low-emission technologies to allow engines to work on clean fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG), LNG, hydrogen and biofuels such as landfill gas. Westport is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where the company was founded, and has facilities in France, Sweden, Italy, China, Australia and the United States. Westport is known for a technology that allows the diesel engine to operate on natural gas without modifications to the engine combustion chamber. in the early 1980s Philip Hill, then professor of mechanical engineering at the University of British Columbia, sought improvements to natural gas combustion in engines. Hill's team of graduate students and research engineers focused on natural gas as fuel in diesel engines to reduce emissions of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and harmful particulate matter in the atmosphere. At the same time, he wanted to maintain performance, fuel economy, durability and reliability characteristics of the conventional diesel engine.
