Ulta Beauty, Inc., formerly known as Olta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc., is an American beauty store chain headquartered in Bowlingbrook, Illinois. Olta Beauty carries cosmetics, skin care brands, men's and women's fragrances, nail products, bath and body products, cosmetics and hair care products. Each shop is equipped with a salon, eyebrow utility bar and Skin Dermalogica Bar. Ulta Beauty currently has 1,196 stores in all 50 states. Olta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance was founded by Richard E. George, former president of USCO Drug Company, and Terry Hanson. George left work in Osco in 1989, at the beginning of his attempt to create an action plan for what would later be Olta. His business plan included a new retail concept that offers higher and lower-level products. Other OSCO executives joined George and Hanson in the business, raised $11.5 million in venture capital, officially launched Olta in september 1990.In, 1996, and hanson hired Charles "Rick" Weber, another OSCO veteran, as chief financial officer. In recent years, Terry Hanson has become president of the company. In December 1999, Lynn Kirby, formerly of Sears Circle Circle Group, became President and CEO, and Weber became Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. The two ran work together until Weber left in September 2006 when he was selected by Tom Stemberg, founder of Staples, to become president and CEO of Rec Room Furniture and Games, Inc. October 25, 2007, became the company publicly traded on nasdaq. In 2008, the company opened a second distribution center in Phoenix, Arizona. On April 26, 2010, Olta announced that Carl "Chuck" Rubin will be appointed Chief Operating Officer, President, and Board member, as of May 10, 2010. According to public filings, Rubin earned more than $11.1 million in 2010, making him one of chicago's top 20 chief executives.
