Trade Steven Madden
Stephen Madden (born March 3, 1958) is an American fashion designer and businessman. He is the founder and former CEO of Steve Madden Limited, a public shareholding company. Madden was born in Far Rockaway, Queens, the son of a Jewish mother and an Irish Catholic father. He grew up in nearby Lawrence and graduated from a local high school in Nassau County, New York. After high school, Madden studied at the University of Miami for two years before returning to Long Island. The youngest of three brothers, he started the company for $1,100 in 1990 by selling shoes from the trunk of his car. Madden's finances were closely intertwined with Long Island's "pump and dump" brokerage house Stratton Oakmont, co-founded by Madden's childhood friend Danny Burroughs, who first lent him money to expand his nascent company, and then under the IPO. in June 2000, filed a class action suit against Madden for issuing false and materially misleading statements during the semester. A settlement of $9 million was reached in 2004.
