It possesses important patents for CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA. Qualcomm was founded in 1985 by Irwin M. Jacobs and six other founders. Her early research into CDMA wireless cell phone technology was funded by the sale of satellite communication systems to commercial trucks. After a heated debate in the wireless industry, the 3G standard was adopted with a CDMA patent from Qualcomm.
