Newcrest Mining Co., Ltd. is an Australian-based company that is involved in exploring, developing, mining and selling gold and copper gold concentrate. It is Australia's leading gold mining company, and has expanded its operations beyond Australia, such as Indonesia, to become a prominent international mining company. Newmont Mining initially started the company as a subsidiary in 1966. The subsidiary of Newmont Holdings Pty Ltd in 1980 and in 1990 acquired 100% of The Australian Holding S.A.C. Newcrest Primary Gold and Copper Production in Australia at Kadia East Ridgeway (Cadia Valley Operations), the second Australian operation is the Telfer mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Newcrest also operates two mines in Papua New Guinea, Lehir and Hidden Valley, and mines in Ivory Coast (Bonicro) and Indonesia (Goswong). The past and present have been explored in the Americas, Asia and Europe. in April 2010, Newcrest announced that it is in merger talks with Liher Gold, a move that will create the world's fifth largest gold producer, with a combined production of 2.8 million ounces of gold in 2009. In August 2010, the deal was approved by Liher shareholders (99.86%) and by the end of the month by the National Court of Papua New Guinea (Papua New Guinea), paving the way for the deal. Under the $9.45 billion deal, Newcrest will award Liher shareholders 0.12 Newcrest shares, plus $0.225 per Liher share. As From 2015, Newcrest was the sixth largest gold producer in the world.
