Lockheed Martin is an American company in aviation, weapons, defense, security, and advanced technologies with interests worldwide. It was formed through lockheed's merger with Martin Marietta in March 1995. Headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland, in the Washington area .C. Lockheed Martin employs nearly 110,000 people worldwide as of January 2020. It is the largest defense company in the world, based on fiscal year 2014 revenue. In 2013, 78% of Lockheed Martin's revenue came from military sales; In 2009, U.S. government contracts amounted to $38.4 billion (85%), foreign government contracts $5.8 billion (13%), and commercial and other contracts valued at $900 million (2%). Half of the company's annual sales are for the U.S. Department of Defense. Lockheed Martin is also a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Lockheed Martin operates in four commercial sectors: Aviation, Missiles, Fire fighting (MFC), Rotary Systems, Mission Systems (RMS) and Space. The company has won the Collier Cup six times, including in 2001 for being part of the development of the X-35/F-35B LiftFan propulsion system, most recently in 2018 for auto-GCAS. Lockheed Martin is currently Developed by F-35 Lightning II and leading the international supply chain, it leads the development and implementation of technology solutions for the new U.S. Air Force Space Fence (AFSSS), the main contractor for the development of the Orion Command Unit. The company also invests in healthcare systems, renewable energy systems, intelligent power distribution and integrated nuclear integration.
