J2 Global, Inc. is a publicly traded American technology company based in Los Angeles, California. The company offers Internet services in two parts: commercial cloud services and digital media. J2 Global was founded in December 1995 JFAX.COM by Jay Mueller and Jack Riley. The company changed its registered name to J2 Global Communications, Inc. in August 2000 and again to J2 Global on December 7, 2011, dropping "communications" from its official name to reflect "... Expansion of phone-focused services... to complementary lines of services that are not based on phone numbers. On November 12, 2012, J2 Global launched its digital media division with the acquisition of digital publisher Ziv Davis for $167 million in cash. On February 4, 2013, G2 Global announced that it had doubled the size of its digital media business through the acquisition of IGN Entertainment from News Corp. The terms of the acquisition of IGN. were not announced on March 18, 2013, and the company announced that it had acquired MetroFax, Belleview, Washington, an Internet fax service provider. On April 17, 2013, the company acquired Backup Connect BV, a Dutch online backup service provider. On November 19, 2013, Media Department's Ziv Davis announced that it had acquired the site's assembly electronics TechBargain.com.
