Itron is an American technology company that offers products and services on water and energy resources management. It is headquartered in Liberty Lake, Washington, United States. Its products and services include smart grid, smart gas and smart water solutions that measure and degrade electricity, gas and water consumption. Its products include electricity, gas, water, thermal energy meters and control technology; communicationsystems; software; as well as managed and advisory services. Etron has more than 8,000 customers in more than 100 countries. Itron was founded by a small group of Washington hydropower engineers trying to find more efficient ways to read yards in Lake Hauser, Idaho, in 1977. In 1984, Itron saw a global expansion of the Asian market and developed new plants in France and the UNITED Kingdom. By 2006, advisory teams were established at Itron to provide services for energy efficiency programs, renewable energy sources, conservation and demand response. Itron received national recognition from the White House in 2010 for its commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing and its contributions to the clean energy economy. During the same year, Itron and Sisco formed an alliance to provide Internet Protocol (IP) communications to the smart network market, changing the network capabilities of the facilities.
