Cheniere Energy, Inc. is an LNG company based in Houston, Texas. In February 2016, it became the first U.S. company to export LNG. As of 2018, it is a Fortune 500 company. The company was founded in 1996 by Sherif Souki, an immigrant from Lebanon. Initially, the oil and gas exploration company shifted its focus in the early 2000s to the development of LNG plants, starting at a plant in Sabine Pass, Louisiana, in March 2005. The company stumbled in the late 21st century as LNG imports dried up due to international competition. However, in late 2010, as natural gas production in the United States increased, the company grew significantly and became an exporter of LNG to international markets. In 2016, he left the company after what he described as a dispute with investor Carl Icahn.In 2018 Cheniere Energy signed a 25-year agreement with CPC, Taiwan, to supply LNG in a contract worth approximately US$25 billion. Deliveries to Taiwan are scheduled to begin in 2021.
